Greg Lynn: I’ll see it when I know it

Lecture @ Sci-Arc, April 2, 7pm

Part of event description:
“In 2001, Time Magazine named Greg Lynn one of 100 of the most innovative people in the world for the 21st Century. In 2005, Forbes Magazine named him one of the ten most influential living architects. Greg Lynn has been at the cutting edge of design in both architecture and design culture in general when it comes to the use of the computer. The buildings, projects, publications, teachings and writings associated with his office have been influential in the acceptance and use of advanced technology for design and fabrication.”

things:

  • teratology & genetics (book? 1898); symmetry as loss of information (instead of beautiful?) (two thumbs on one hand picture)
  • save resources by creating mass components that can be organized/put together into various and unique ways
  • instead of starting design with dome shape (with infinite points), start with angles, and cut off corners until it curves
  • architect’s job is designing an object that is experienced as an environment
  • two-speed buildings/objects that must appeal to/attract pedestrians and motorists
  • blobwall — his new type of bricks
