architecture of interiors

first half of essay:

an analysis of  Woody Allen’s Interiors (1978) (i haven’t seen it recently enough to offer any worthwhile commentary on it right now)

second half of essay:

an analysis of the changing patterns of domestic space/interiors, such as:

  • why rooms used to be all closed off and separate—including living rooms and sitting rooms, which are typically now part of the open space of a home
  • separate toilet from shower rooms as opposed to one bathroom space
  • kitchen closed off and far away instead of open and near dining/living room; open bars and islands
  • windows (more/less) and general open space/walkways undefined for any specific purpose in the home. connected room areas (dining + living)

etc. and what all of this says about changing social and family patterns from (possibly) Victorian period to today
