A brother and sister sat beside me on the bus yesterday. The girl was probably 4 or 5 years old and the boy maybe 6 or 7. They were talking excitedly about a lot of things—mainly video games I think.
As we were riding through Beverly Hills, the boy said something about going to a mall, then he said something like “I knew there wasn’t a mall over here.” The girl responded quietly, but matter-of-factly, “I knew it too.” I don’t think it even mattered what her brother had said—she would have agreed with anything.
The scene made me wonder, though, at what age does the girl’s response become “I knew it to-oo,” with the rising “oo” at the end in declaration of being in the know as well? Or at what age does the boy snap back at his sister “Well, I knew it first!”?

or does it ever happen? my brother and i don’t do that–we’re so far apart in age and have such similar temperaments that it doesn’t happen. my sister and i are a different story.
